Why Remote?

Part IX of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) was revised in 2019 to provide legislation regarding Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS, aka: UAVs, drones, UAS, etc.) in Canada. These new laws apply to all drone operations conducted in an outdoor environment with drones weighing more than 250g.

Part IX of the CARs splits RPAS Operation Capabilities into two main divisions:

Basic Operation - Permits RPAS operation in uncontrolled airspace, more than 30m from bystanders and nowhere near Airports or Heliports.

Advanced Operation - Permits RPAS operation in controlled airspace, nearer to bystanders and within proximity to airports and heliports.

Regardless of what type of operation you intend to conduct, all RPAS operators flying drones heavier than 250g are now required to be licensed with Transport Canada.

Let Remote Ops. help get you certified, competent, and confident.

Remote Ops. is an Alberta-based startup in the RPAS (drone) sector. We are a group of first responders and aviation professionals motivated to develop processes that can be demonstrated, trained, and supported in an effort to make RPAS more accessible and sustainable to emergency response agencies.

Most (80+%) Fire Departments in Canada are operated on a volunteer or paid-on-call basis. Budgets are limited, time and staffing required to explore and develop new tools is restricted. Add the regulatory complexity of the Canadian aviation industry, and the endeavour can quickly become overwhelming. Remote Ops. is aiming to 'bridge the gaps' between what responders want and need, and how to most effectively reach those goals while maintaining regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.

The end result is a tool that helps to make emergency response safer, more effective, and more efficient.

Our goal is to sustainably identify and leverage the best tools available, in order to allow these agencies to safely, efficiently and legally operate RPAs in the line of duty with the ultimate goal of increasing public safety, and the safety of responders themselves.

Every dollar Remote Ops. generates goes directly to research and development efforts to improve and enhance the products and services we can provide to response agencies.
